Seventeen fishermen from Ramanathapuram were detained by the Sri Lankan Navy during routine patrolling operations in the Palk Strait. The fishermen, who were reportedly engaged in fishing activities near the International Maritime Boundary Line, were apprehended on charges of crossing into Sri Lankan territorial waters.

Their boats were seized, and they were taken to a naval base for further questioning. Officials have stated that the detained fishermen will be handed over to relevant authorities for legal proceedings.

The incident has sparked concern among local fishing communities and officials in Tamil Nadu, with calls for swift intervention from the Indian government to secure their release. Efforts to establish communication with Sri Lankan authorities are said to be underway.
