Pyongyang / Moscow | October 25, 2025- North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Friday reaffirmed his country’s deepening alliance with Russia, declaring that military and defence cooperation between the two nations will “advance non-stop” despite growing international criticism.
Kim made the statement during a high-profile ceremony in Pyongyang, praising Moscow as a “strategic partner against imperialist powers.” His remarks, carried by North Korea’s state media, underline an accelerating partnership that has drawn sharp warnings from the United States, Japan, and South Korea.
Kim’s comments follow a series of defence and trade exchanges between Pyongyang and Moscow that began intensifying in mid-2024.U.S. and South Korean intelligence reports suggest North Korea has supplied Russia with artillery shells and rockets used in the Ukraine conflict. In return, Russia is believed to be assisting North Korea with fuel, food, and satellite technology — a claim the Kremlin has not denied.
“The blood alliance between our two nations will never be broken,” Kim said, standing before senior military officials. “Our march together against global domination will continue without pause.”
In Moscow, the Kremlin welcomed Kim’s remarks, calling North Korea a “reliable partner in shaping a multipolar world.”A spokesperson for President Vladimir Putin said Russia valued its “defence and economic cooperation” with Pyongyang, adding that the relationship was “built on trust, equality, and mutual benefit.”Putin himself has described Kim as a leader with “strong resolve and independence,” and has hinted at expanding cooperation in aerospace and defence systems — a move likely to deepen Western unease.
Western Reaction
Washington and its allies reacted swiftly.
The U.S. State Department condemned the partnership, saying any arms or technology transfers between the two countries “violate multiple UN Security Council resolutions.”
South Korea’s Defence Ministry accused the two governments of forming a “mutual sanction-busting network” that poses direct threats to the region. In Tokyo, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa urged the international community to “respond decisively” to what she called an emerging “authoritarian military bloc.”
The growing cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow comes at a critical time for both leaders.
Russia, facing shortages from its ongoing war in Ukraine, has turned to North Korea for ammunition and logistical support.North Korea, squeezed by sanctions and food scarcity, gains fuel, trade routes, and technology assistance through Moscow’s backing.
Defence experts say the relationship is evolving into a strategic alliance that could reshape regional power dynamics — with China watching carefully from the sidelines.Kim’s pledge of “non-stop” advancement in military cooperation with Russia sends a clear message:
North Korea is no longer operating as a regional outlier — it’s aligning itself with a major world power under sanction.
For Putin, the alliance offers cheap arms and ideological solidarity.
For Kim, it offers survival, visibility, and validation on the world stage.
Both leaders are betting that a fractured international order gives them the room to manoeuvre — and for now, it appears to be working. At a time when diplomacy is retreating and alliances arehardening, Kim’s message to the world is unmistakable: North Korea is not backing down — it’s choosing its side. And that side, for now, stands firmly with Moscow.
