New Delhi, Feb 8 – BJP Ends 27-Year Drought, Reclaims Power in Delhi with Resounding Win In a major political shift, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has returned to power in Delhi after nearly three decades, delivering a blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which had ruled the capital for the past ten years.
The BJP secured a decisive victory, winning 48 out of 70 seats, while AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, managed to secure only 22 seats. This win marks a significant comeback for the BJP in Delhi, a city that had remained elusive for the party despite its stronghold in national politics.
Following the victory, Modi took to social media, stating, “We will leave no stone unturned in developing Delhi and improving the lives of its people.” The BJP’s campaign focused on infrastructure development and welfare schemes, including financial aid for women, pension benefits for the elderly, and subsidized cooking gas, which resonated with voters.
AAP, which had built its support on free utilities and social welfare programs, suffered a major setback. Kejriwal, who was arrested last year on corruption charges and later released on bail, lost his own seat. He acknowledged the defeat, stating that AAP would continue to serve as a “constructive opposition.”

For the BJP, this victory strengthens its hold on key state legislatures, bolstering its position in the upper house of parliament. Though Modi lost his parliamentary majority in last year’s national elections, his party has since gained momentum, winning three out of four recent state elections.
With this historic win, the BJP now faces the challenge of delivering on its promises and reshaping Delhi’s governance after nearly three decades on the sidelines.
