As part of the Government of India’s ongoing efforts to foster global partnerships in agriculture and water resource management, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore is currently hosting an intensive four-month capacity-building program for irrigation and agricultural engineers from Rwanda. The program is designed to equip participants with knowledge and practical skills in modern irrigation technologies, soil and water conservation, farm machinery, and bio-energy systems.

A major highlight of the training was an industrial field visit to Aquasub Engineering (Aqua Group) in Coimbatore, one of India’s leading manufacturers of pump systems. Known for its Texmo and Aquatex brands for domestic use and the atx brand catering to international markets, Aquasub provided the Rwandan delegation with valuable, hands-on experience in several key areas.

During the visit, the eight engineers received expert instruction on how to select pumps for diverse agricultural conditions, assess pump performance, troubleshoot operational issues, and design efficient irrigation systems using advanced technologies—including solar-powered and specialty pumps tailored for modern farming applications.

The session was coordinated seamlessly by Mr. V.A. Sureshkumar, Manager of Marketing at Aquasub Engineering. In-depth technical briefings were delivered by Mr. U.V. Ravi, Head of Unit 4, and Mr. T. Thirumeny, Head of API and Unit 2, who shared insights on cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, quality assurance practices, and automation in pump production.

One of the most engaging aspects of the visit was the introduction to Industry 4.0 technologies, including robotic systems and fully automated manufacturing lines—showcasing how innovation is transforming traditional pump manufacturing.

This international training initiative was developed and led by Dr. S. Pazhanivelan, Director of the Centre for Water and Geospatial Studies at TNAU. The industrial visit was supported by Dr. P.C. Prabu, Associate Professor, who accompanied the Rwandan engineers and ensured the experience was educational, interactive, and practically enriching.

This collaboration marks a meaningful step toward strengthening agricultural knowledge exchange and sustainable development between India and Rwanda.
