Beersheba, Israel — In a grave escalation of the Iran–Israel conflict, a direct missile strike from Iran hit Soroka Medical Center, the largest hospital in southern Israel, early Thursday morning. The impact caused significant structural damage and left at least 47 people injured, including medical staff, patients, and first responders.
Hospital in Crisis
Soroka, which serves nearly 1 million residents across southern Israel, suffered extensive interior and exterior damage, with several floors partially collapsed and power outages in critical care units. Emergency teams quickly evacuated neonatal and ICU wards, shifting patients to temporary triage zones set up in nearby buildings.

“It was like an earthquake—windows shattered, ceilings fell, we thought the hospital would collapse,” said Yael Ben-Ami, a nurse on the trauma team.
Medical officials have restricted emergency services to life-threatening cases only, urging the public to seek care elsewhere.
Iran’s Deadliest Strikes Yet
This hospital strike is part of the most intense wave of Iranian missile attacks seen in the region this year. Other missiles hit residential buildings in Tel Aviv, Holon, and Ramat Gan, wounding another 40 civilians. While Israel’s Iron Dome intercepted most incoming threats, several missiles overwhelmed defenses.

Israel Retaliates Immediately
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed precision strikes on Iran’s Arak heavy-water reactor and surrounding nuclear-related infrastructure as part of its retaliatory response. IDF sources assure there is no radiation risk, though protective protocols have been activated in the region.
“Iran has crossed a red line. We will hold Tehran fully accountable,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a televised statement at dawn.
Global Response and Evacuations Begin
UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the attack on the hospital as “a breach of international humanitarian law.” Countries including Germany, Canada, and India have begun evacuating diplomats and foreign nationals from Israel and Iran as war fears grow.
