A devastating attack occurred in New Orleans’ French Quarter early on New Year’s Day, leaving 15 dead and approximately 30 injured, including two police officers. The incident unfolded at 3:15 a.m. near the intersection of Canal and Bourbon Streets, a historic area known for its music and vibrant nightlife, as crowds gathered to celebrate.

The suspect, identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. Army veteran and former serviceman in Afghanistan, was fatally shot during a confrontation with police. Investigations are underway, with officials considering the possibility that others may have been involved in planning the tragedy.

The truck, adorned with an ISIS flag attached to a staff on its trailer hitch, swerved through makeshift barriers before ramming into the crowd. The driver, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. Army veteran, was killed in a shootout with police. Weapons and a potential explosive device were discovered in the vehicle, and two additional explosive devices were found nearby and rendered safe.

The perceived danger prompted the postponement of the Sugar Bowl, a college football game scheduled for New Year’s Day, as police conducted sweeps of the city for explosives and followed leads on potential accomplices.

The FBI stated that Jabbar was not believed to have acted alone. Investigators are actively pursuing leads, including links to his known associates and possible connections to terrorist organizations.

The victims of this horrific attack included a mother of a 4-year-old celebrating her recent promotion, a New York financial employee and student athlete visiting home, and an aspiring nurse from Mississippi. Their lives were tragically cut short in an act of senseless violence.

As investigations continue, the city remains vigilant, with heightened security measures in place ahead of hosting the NFL Super Bowl on February 9. Authorities are determined to uncover the full scope of the attack and bring any accomplices to justice.

BIDEN CONDEMNS ATTACK.

U.S. President Joe Biden condemned what he called a “despicable” act and said investigators were looking into whether there might be a link to a Tesla truck fire outside a Trump hotel in Las Vegas. So far, there was no evidence linking the two events, Biden said.
